Hope for Darfur, Sudan
One hundred tons of food has been generously put into our hands to help the people of Darfur . . . and now a Muslim businessman has offered to donate in-country trucking to help us get food to his countrymen--all we have to do is cover the cost of shipping the food there.
What it means is that every $100 invested in shipping will deliver $750 in food. Our goal is to ship five enormous containers holding well over one million meals to feed starving children and families who have spent their lives on the run to escape unimaginable horror.
One ray of hope is that the internal war and suffering inflicted on the people of Darfur by their Muslim countrymen has turned many there against Islam.
They are now willing and eager to hear the Gospel--their hearts are open to the truth about Jesus Christ for the first time ever!
And we know that the food will actually go to hungry people who desperately need it. Pastor Mawan Deng of the well-established Safe Harbor organization, our partners in ministry, will personally oversee the distribution of the food in Darfur.
We will also send Bibles and Christian literature in Arabic . . . the Safe Harbor ministry team will share the gospel message person to person as food is distributed.
In a land where most have never heard a single word about eternal hope through Jesus--in a land militantly committed to Islam-- this initiative is going to lead multitudes to Christ.
"I strongly believe that this is the time of God for Darfur" Pastor Mawan says with joy. "The local people inform us that they do not want Islam any more . . . They open their houses and marketplaces for us to come and share the Gospel."
Small churches have begun to be planted among the people of Darfur. Prior to this, it had taken missionaries and evangelists years to win one Muslim to Christ!
A pastor from the Safe Harbor team reports: "An area chief told me that everything they believed in is now gone. All they hoped and trusted in has failed them. He said, 'Now I know that there must be another answer. Maybe it's Jesus.'" This sultan is both the civil and religious leader for the region.
But we must act quickly. "We need to make use of the opportunity" Pastor Mawan says, "for we do not know when this door will be closed."
