From the garbage dump to Gospel hope: You fuel change beyond imagination!

Four years ago, a Feed The Hungry team came across a group of families trying to survive amidst the city dump in Jinotega, Nicaragua.

They were living in drafty, makeshift shelters with no plumbing. They desperately dug through trash, each day, looking for something they could sell . . . and anything at all they and their children could eat.

You can imagine the stench. The smoke. The rotten food, illness, and disease. And there was always the threat of the gangs and traffickers who saw the little ones as easy prey.

It was heartbreaking. And there seemed to be no way to get these families permanently safe. Until God used you to do something absolutely remarkable.

You made the difference for the “least of these”

As our team prayed, an extraordinary plan began to take shape—right there on the edges of the dump.

They knew that bringing food to these families was a big help. It was absolutely critical to keep giving meals! But that wasn’t enough to change lives.

So they also went to work to make a transformative, long-term difference . . . to get these families out of garbage dumps and into Christ-centered homes.

God moved among partners like you to support this greater vision—inspiring a handful of close friends to help build a beautiful new community to keep these families safe, plus many more to provide the meals that deliver vital nourishment and hope, every single day.

The impact you made on daily lives is extraordinary

Now, instead of living under cardboard and digging through the dump for food, 24 families wake up in beds, with walls and roofs that protect them—and real bathrooms.

  • They have a clinic for medical care.

  • A church where they worship and learn about Jesus.

  • Warm meals every single day.

  • With the help of several generous friends of the ministry, we’re also constructing a school!

It’s hard to express what a difference all this makes to families who lived in dirt and trash for so long . . . losing their dignity and their hope. It’s especially impactful on the children.

Now that they have ready meals, they no longer need to dig through garbage all day, just to find enough food to survive.

When they lie down at bedtime in a safe home instead of a cardboard shelter, they can get restful sleep.

Thanks to your help, they now have the time and energy to actually learn. They can build a bright future instead of living in “survival mode” all the time. And they’re also hearing about Jesus—their ultimate hope.

Meet two boys you helped save

Abner is 10 years old. Now he has a bright future, thanks to your prayers and gifts. He says:

“I thank God for life, for the food He provides. . . . Knowing there are people—many from far away—who care for me and send food for children in need makes me feel grateful. To them, I say: Thank you for what you have sent.

Cruz, age 14, prays every day and powerfully shares God’s love. He’s grateful for friends like you for providing his favorite meal—conchitas with rice and beans. He’s working to become a chef and says, “Through faith, we can reach our dreams.”

Thank you for changing lives

You helped bring desperate families from the garbage heaps to Gospel-centered homes. It’s hard to imagine a bigger transformation.

Yet there are so many families still living in Nicaragua’s dumps and waiting for someone to see, someone to help. One little boy recently received a meal of tacos from our team and started to walk away without eating . . . despite his deep hunger. He finally admitted:

He didn’t know how to eat the tacos.

He had probably only eaten scraps . . . nothing on a plate.

You can continue to reach little ones like this with nourishing food and Gospel hope! Every $6 feeds a child for a month—and helps them hear about Jesus too.

So many children are still hungry. Please, nourish their bodies and souls today.
